Marshawn Kneeland: A Rising Star
Gone Too Soon: A Tribute
- Marshawn Kneeland, a promising defensive end for the Dallas
Cowboys, tragically passed away on November 6, 2025, at the age
of 24.
The team confirmed his death in a heartfelt statement,
describing him as a “beloved teammate and member of our
organization.”
No official cause of death has been released, though
reports indicate a 911 call from his girlfriend, Catalina, raised
concerns shortly before his passing.
- Born on July 8, 2001, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Kneeland’s
journey to the NFL was marked by resilience and quiet
determination.
He played high school football at Godwin Heights and went on to
star at Western Michigan University.
Over five seasons with the Broncos, he recorded 148 tackles, 27.5
tackles for loss, and 13 sacks, earning Second-Team All-MAC
honors in 2023.
- The Dallas Cowboys selected Kneeland in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 56th overall.
In his brief NFL career, he tallied 26 tackles, one sack, one fumble
recovery, one pass deflection, and even scored a touchdown.
His final game included a memorable blocked punt recovery for a
touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals, a moment that showcased
his explosive
potential.
- Kneeland’s personal story was deeply shaped by loss and love.
His mother, Wendy, passed away unexpectedly in February 2024,
just as he was preparing for the NFL Draft.
In her memory, he wore a necklace containing her ashes, a symbol
of her enduring presence in his life. “She’s still with me,” he once
said. “I still feel like she’s there watching over me”.
- In the wake of his death, attention has turned to his girlfriend,
Catalina, who made a distressing 911 call warning that “he will end
it all.”
While investigations are ongoing, the NFL community has rallied
around Kneeland’s family and loved ones.
Tributes have poured in from teammates, coaches, and fans, all
mourning the loss of a young man whose life and career were just
beginning.
